Lead in paint was outlawed in 1978. Prior to that time lead based
paint was in use everywhere. The problem with lead based
paint is that it will flake and/or turn to a fine dust. This
lead based dust then can settle on the floor, widow sills and
window troughs which will eventually find its way into the digestive
tract of young children and into the respiratory tract
of adults.
Lead
poisioning, especially in children from 6 months to 6 years old will cause learning
disabilties, slow development and other problems
with the child's developement. In adults lead poisioning
can lead to reproductive issues, dragging foot, and other
neurological disabilities.
If
the home you may be considering to purchase was built before
1978 and you have a very young family, we strongly recommend
a lead based paint inspection and a Lead Based Paint
Risk Assessment.
