The following courses are in the process of being developed and must be submitted to the North Carolina Home Inspector Licensing Board for approval. The tentative elective classes will be for the 2006 to 2008 license year.

Principles and Methods of Field Inspections |
This course is great for new or inexperienced Home Inspectors that do not know how to conduct an inspection that will meet the requirements of the North Carolina Home Inspector Licensing Board Standards of practise.The participants will cover the NCHILB "Standards of Practice", and are given some Methodologies to follow in the course of an actual inspection. The participants are taken to a house that is for sale on the market (a vacant house) and are shown the "HOW To's" by a licensed experienced home inspector. The participants are then assigned another house for completing an actual inspection. Finally some time will be spent generating an actual report. The course starts on Friday night (6pm) with the mandatory class then a full day on Saturday and Sunday to complete the course objectives. Three licensed inspectors will guide the participants during this class. Class size is limited to ten participants. Sign up will begin shortly. |

Principles and Methods of Roofing Part One |
This course will cover the different type of roofing materials that the inspector may have to inspect sometime during his/her career. From slate roofs to metal roof to asphalt shingles will be covered. The installation methods, pros and cons of each type roof will be discussed along with the methodologies of inspecting each type roof. This is part one of a two part class. This course will prepare the new inspector and the seasoned inspector in the "Principles and Methodologies" to inspect various roofing types. |

Principles and Methods of Residential Electrical Inspections Part One |
Have you ever opened that electrical panel and said to your self "What is That"? Why are there 20- 20 ampere single pole circuit breakers and its only a 200 ampere panel? What are the correct descriptions for the various "things" inside the panel? What is a double lugged buss? How does a GFIC operate and protect a non-grounded two wire system? This is the class for you! We will explore the electrical house wiring system from George Westinghouse and Thomas Edison to where we are today with some large homes being wired for 400 ampere service. This is part one of a two part class. This course will prepare the new inspector and the seasoned inspector in the principles and methodologies to inspect various electrical systems. |

Principles and Methods of Residential Electrical Inspections Part Two |
This course will continue with the education of the home wiring system. We will continue to explore the "Principles and Methodologies" of a home wiring system. The participants will be able to inspect two main panels and a sub panel with defects to help identity those defects. Safety issues will be presented to keep the inspector from getting hurt with the eletrical system. This is part two of a two part class. This course will prepare the new inspector and the seasoned inspector in the principles and methodologies to inspect various electrical systems. |
